This webpage provides information to members of the National Association for Information Destruction, Inc. (NAID), prospective NAID members, and organizations using NAID member services about Downstream Data Coverage, a professional liability insurance product developed for data-related vendors that is available as a benefit of NAID membership to companies that meet the underwriter’s eligibility requirements.
Downstream Data Coverage is a “claims-made” professional liability coverage underwritten by certain syndicates at Lloyd’s.
The National Association for Information Destruction (NAID) is a 501(c)(6) non-profit Arizona corporation formed in 1994 to promote the proper destruction of discarded sensitive information and to promote the use of qualified service providers to meet all data destruction requirements.
Downstream Data Coverage is underwritten by certain syndicates at Lloyd’s, the world's leading insurance market, providing specialist insurance services to businesses in over 200 countries and territories.
The underwriters at Lloyd’s are among the best in the world, and the underwriters and brokers together will use their considerable knowledge and expertise to agree the right insurance cover at the right price and on the right terms.
Through a combination of our long-standing reputation and international reach, Lloyd’s is by far the strongest in the global insurance market. This reputation is the result of over 300 years of expertise, agility and, most of all, dependability.
To obtain Downstream Data Coverage, third-party data-related services providers, including but not limited to those providing physical or electronic data/records destruction services, records storage services, scanning, or imaging services must maintain NAID AAA Certification for all aspects of their business to which the accreditation applies.
For instance, a records storage service provider is eligible to obtain Downstream Data Coverage for all professional liabilities related to data protection if all data destruction portion of their business is NAID AAA Certified.
Information collected by AIM and shared with Lloyd’s is maintained under strict confidentially and used solely for the purpose of assessing premiums and risk, and to meet ongoing regulatory requirements. At no time are NAID employees, NAID members, or any unauthorized individuals given access to the financial or competitive information submitted to AIM.
Certain underwriting eligibility requirements related to NAID AAA Certification are determined by AIM via their access to publically accessible records posted by NAID.
